New Resident Wonders Why Hy-Vee Selling Shirts Showcasing Athlete Two States Over

Making her first visit to the Wilson Avenue Hy-Vee on Tuesday, Sheryl Jackson expressed confusion why the full-service grocery store had a rack of shirts highlighting a professional woman basketball player in Indiana.

“That just seemed odd to me,” said Cooper, who recently moved to Cedar Rapids from Reno, Nevada. “I get that there aren’t professional sports teams in Iowa, but why promote a random athlete from Indiana? Aren’t there any athletes in Chicago or Kansas City?”

Cooper said she was in the store to see if she could find a jersey for her favorite professional athlete, Kate Martin, of the WNBA Golden State Valkyries. Disappointed that she couldn’t find one, she settled for a two-pound canister of Mark Wahlberg protein powder and three 16 oz. bags of Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels.
